Biography

Dr Daria Nurzynska is a University Researcher and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Public Health of the University of Naples "Federico II" (Italy). She earned her MD degree at Medical University in Warsaw (Poland) and received a fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the New York Medical College (Valhalla, NY, USA). Pursuing a career in both research and medical education, she obtained her PhD title in Clinical and Pathological Morphology from the University of Naples "Federico II" and was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate with distinction in Practical Anatomy from the Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). Dr Nurzynska delivers lectures and holds practical sessions in gross and microscopic anatomy for graduate and postgraduate medical students. She also investigates stem cells and myocardial regeneration and her interests include the origin of adult human cardiac stem cells, cell-matrix interactions in normal and pathological conditions and methods for the enhancement of cardiac tissue regeneration.

In BIORECAR project, Daria is isolating human cardiac fibroblasts from human heart samples, as well as contributing to the development of a 3D tissue-engineered model of infarcted heart.
