Biography

Irene Carmagnola received BS degree (March 2007) and MS degree (July 2009) in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino. In 2010 she was qualified to practice the profession of Industrial Engineer. From January 2010 to December 2012 she was PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Politecnico di Torino, where she worked on the development of innovative materials and coatings for coronary stents. From February 2018 Irene Carmagnola is Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Torino, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. During her research activities, she has gained experience on the design, preparation and characterization of polymeric biomaterials and on nanotechnology applied to biomedical research, particularly to Tissue Engineering. She developed nanostructured coatings employing innovative strategies for different applications, such as coronary stents, wound dressings and scaffolds for the soft tissue regeneration.

As a result of research work, she is the author of 20 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. As researcher of Industrial Bioengineering Group, she has been involved in many national and international projects, has been supervisor of 3 PhD. Students, tutor of 34 bachelor students and 9 master students.
