Elena Marcello

Post-doctoral fellow

Biography

Elena Marcello received her BSc (2013) and MSc (2016) degree in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (Italy). She then obtained her PhD in Biotechnology (2020) at the University of Westminster (UK), working as a Marie Sklodowska?Curie Early Stage Researcher as part of an Industrial European Project (HyMedPoly) with the goal of developing novel drug-free antibacterial materials. Her work focused on the development of 3D printed antibacterial scaffolds based on natural polymers (i.e. polyhydroxyalkanoates) for bone regeneration. After receiving her PhD, she worked as post-doctoral research associate at the University of Westminster, investigating the development of environmentally friendly coatings based on biopolyesters with a wide spectrum of antimicrobial properties. In the framework of BIORECAR, she is a post-doc at the Politecnico di Torino working on the design of injectable hydrogels for direct cell reprogramming in cardiac regeneration.
